09/12 – Present Freelance Senior Research Consultant
I have worked as a senior freelance research consultant for 7 years. I am flexible on a project by project basis and manage all aspects of the project life cycle, including:

Writing proposals on behalf of busy clients; advising on methodological approaches (both qualitative and quantitative) and guiding on how best to respond to research questions and objectives

Drafting key field documents, including recruitment scripts; interviewer briefing notes; quantitative questionnaires and qualitative topic guides utilising the most up to date techniques

Moderating across various qualitative forums (including focus groups; tele-depths; face-to-face depths; on-line focus groups; web-chats; vox-pops; MROCS; ethnographic observations and accompanied shops).

Managing and liaising with field departments (both qualitative and quantitative), organising and managing the recruitment and fieldwork process

Conducting the analysis of both quantitative & qualitative outputs

Producing comprehensive reports (some of which are published in the public domain), incorporating summaries of key findings and strategic recommendations

Producing social media monitoring reports and regularly work through outputs from on-line communities.
I work across key sectors, including: Retail; FMCG; HE and Further Education; Charity; Financial; Tech and Mobile and the Public and Third Sector.
06/13 – Present Research Academy Academy Associate
I am responsible for delivering face-to-face and online lectures to prepare students for the MRS Advanced Certificate and MRS Diploma in Market & Social Research Practice.
11/10 – 09/12 YouthSight Project Director
In this role, my key responsibility involved developing and shaping a new research tool, from the first small steps along a complex intellectual journey through to fruition and marketing of the refined product. Simultaneously I was conducting on-line focus groups; training junior members of staff in both qualitative and quantitative methods; presenting at conferences and liaising with clients.
10/10 – 07/03 University of Westminster Visiting Lecturer
I was a visiting lecturer on the MA/MSc Applied Market & Social Research and the Market Research (MRS) Diploma in Market and Social Research Practice.
05/08 – 11/10 Central Office of Information (COI) Senior Research Manager
I worked in a senior role project managing accounts that included the Home Office, the Ministry of Justice and the Electoral Commission (including the high-profile Knife Crime campaign).
I managed qualitative and quantitative research projects to help guide and inform critical Government marketing and communication campaigns. I project managed all elements of the research project lifecycle, responsibilities included writing briefs; financial management; procuring appropriate suppliers and presenting high quality deliverables that reflected core objectives. I was involved in both the ‘youth hub’ (a cross-Governmental group that brought together shared learnings about youth audiences and key ‘youth-focused’ campaigns) and the COI branding team.
06/06 – 10/08 Freelance
In my role as a freelance market researcher I was always flexible and adaptable, working with a range of clients across the private and public sectors, managing projects with stakeholders and consumers.
09/98 – 05/06 ICM Associate Director
I was at ICM for nearly 8 years, and worked on qualitative/quantitative projects across various sectors, including political, social, financial, new media & technology and retail. I managed both business-to-business and consumer projects and both national and international projects. I worked with a number of clients such as, Electoral Commission, BBC, The Guardian, DTI, ITC, DCMS, Age Concern, Conservative Party, Nationwide, Halifax, Norwich Union, Lloyds, AOL, NTL, O2, BVHE, Fila, Adams Childrenswear and Oasis.
As an Associate Director, I brought in new qualitative research clients, responded to briefs, wrote proposals, full project management included managing fieldwork, analysis, report-writing and presentations.
07/97 – 07/98 Rosslyn Research Project Manager
Within this business-to-business research agency responsibilities included planning research, strategies, formulating questionnaires, identifying sample frames, briefing interviewers, analysis of data, and producing conclusive reports and presentations.
01/97 – 07/97 Commission for Racial Equality Research Assistant
As part of a research team within the Social Policy department at Leeds University, I carried out systematic content analysis of British newspapers, radio and television news coverage of race in the run up to and during the 1997 General election. Worked as part of a research team within the Social Policy Department
